It’s a decent MFTV movie. The screenshot above is from a scene that happened in real life, when the police almost found her in a library but couldn’t look under her veil under threat of “religious prosecution”. Maybe I just know too much about religious clothing choices, and I don’t know what they were exactly wearing in the real life incident, but I live around a bunch of Muslims and that’s the most fucked up niqab I’ve ever seen
also Dylan Baker got top billing and for a second I thought he was going to play Brian David Mitchell and I was like WOW THIS GUY IS BUILDING HIS CAREER ON PLAYING CHILD RAPISTS. He actually played Elizabeth’s father. He’ll always be that pedophile psychiatrist to me, though
But the best part of the movie is when Marc Klaas comes to “help” but they expose him as scum like immediately and they have Dylan Baker/Ed Smart look directly into the camera and point his finger and say “SHAME ON YOU, MARC KLAAS! SHAAAAAAME ON YOOOOOU!” and I laaaaughed. The murder of Polly Klaas was a BIG DEAL when I was growing up (a local girl close to my age) and I always though Marc Klaas came off as an asshole, it was nice to see it affirmed
It has a happy ending too! You can watch it Monday March 25th at 2pm on Lifetime Movie Network
Earlier this week the television show Body of Proof (I had never heard of it either) had a storyline about religious fundamentalists so I thought I’d check it out in case anyone had cool style. NOBODY DID. I didn’t even take a picture of the other sister’s hair because her braid looked hella rat-tail and sad. They weren’t supposed to be FLDS, just unspecified Christians, but they still could have looked less busted. F- for the wardrobe/hair department
The show itself I’d give an overall B-. I don’t usually watch Body of Proof and this didn’t make me a fan. I liked this episode a lot but it was about demonic possession, and I could probably watch the exorcism episode of any show and enjoy it. I just don’t know if I need Dana Delaney in my life every week the way I need like, Mariska Hargitay
Tangentially related: the best exorcism movie I’ve ever seen is Requiem (2006). Highly recommended. I thought it was really well done and it’s set in the 1970s so it looks cool too
In 20/20: Breaking Polygamy, journalist Amy Robach tries to get into the Hildale Maternity Clinic and they shut her down cold, BUT THEN the 20/20 narrator is like “oh hey no big deal because years ago they gave us UNPRECEDENTED ACCESS TO THE FLDS MATERNITY CLINIC BUT WE JUST SAT ON IT FOR ALL THIS TIME. WHATEVER” and then they showed like ten minutes of doctors and moms
Seriously so disappointed in you 20/20. I definitely would have watched an hour just about the FLDS OB/GYN
